Jeffrey S. Mandel Named Young Lawyer of the Year
by New Jersey State Bar Association

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Florham Park attorney and Parsippany resident Jeffrey S. Mandel received the prestigious Young Lawyer of the Year Award from the Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association on May 19 at the organization’s annual meeting in Atlantic City. The Young Lawyer of the Year designation is presented to a young lawyer whose personal and professional achievements merit special recognition and who has made unique community and public service contributions, has actively participated in the organized bar and has stood out in the areas of professional knowledge, skill, integrity and courtesy.

Beginning with service as a judicial clerk for Appellate Division Judge Donald G. Collester Jr., Mandel “developed powerful knowledge and experience in appellate practice and procedures,” said Anthony V. Locascio, who nominated his colleague for the award. He also served as an intern to retired Appellate Division Judges Charles E. Villanueva and William A. Dreier.

The 2005 Young Lawyer of the Year is the author of “New Jersey Appellate Practice,” an instructive treatise on appellate rules, laws and procedures, to be published this year by Gann Law Books.

A member of the NJSBA Appellate Practice Committee and Defense Research Institute Appellate Advocacy Committee, Mandel taught appellate advocacy as an adjunct professor of law at Seton Hall University School of Law.

Mandel serves as designated counsel for assigned cases from the Appellate Section of the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender. He recently briefed and argued a case before the New Jersey Supreme Court on behalf of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey.

A prolific writer, from 1999 to 2005 Mandel published over 12 articles in the New Jersey Lawyer, New Jersey Law Journal and Summation. He has been quoted in other articles and assisted in revising ICLE’s “2005 New Jersey Appellate Practice Handbook.”

Mandel appears regularly as a guest legal commentator on criminal and appellate issues on COURT TV, and he also appears on CNN and FOX NEWS Channel.

In addition to his pro bono work, Mandel is active and involved in community service as a mediator for the Community Dispute Resolution Committee for Morris and Sussex Counties. He currently chairs a panel of Montville Township’s Community Dispute Resolution Committee, and served on the Montville Township Environmental Commission.

Mandel is a senior associate with Pitney Hardin in Florham Park where he concentrates his practice in complex toxic tort litigation, personal injury law, contract law, criminal law and general litigation.

A 1995 graduate of Indiana University where he was selected to the National Criminal Justice Honor Society, Mandel received his law degree in 1998 from Seton Hall University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, Third Circuit, U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey and U.S. District Courts, Southern and Eastern District of New York.

The Young Lawyers Division of the NJSBA organizes and promotes activities, including continuing legal education seminars that are of assistance to new lawyers in the practice of law, and encourages pro bono and community service involvement by all new lawyers.

The New Jersey State Bar Association, incorporated in 1899, is dedicated to the continuing education of lawyers and the public, to reforming and improving the legal system and to aiding in the administration of justice.
